Thomas R. Burns
is an accomplished author and octogenarian whose journey through life reflects a commitment to service and spirituality. Born in the Ohio countryside during the Great Depression, he witnessed firsthand the challenges and changes of the mid-20th century.
- Grew up in Ohio, moved to Pittsburgh during World War II. Returned post-war to Ohio.
- Initially pursued the Catholic priesthood, switched to a career in social work and public health after marrying.
- Served as a U.S. Public Health Service Officer assigned to the Indian Health Service in the Department of Health and Human Services in Washington, D.C.
- Studied for the Roman Catholic diaconate, ordained and served in New Mexico. Also an avid gardener and oil painter.
